You may understand the body as something borrowed from God while the mind is entrusted to each person for responsible use.

You may seek to remove such “dusts of the mind” as:

• Greed
• Miserliness
• Partiality
• Hatred
• Anger
• Self-love
• Covetousness
• Arrogance

You may believe that God the Parent revealed the path of single-hearted salvation through Miki Nakayama, whom followers honor as Oyasama.

You may regard her as the Shrine of God and the Parent of the Divine Model who demonstrated the way humanity should live.

You may accept the Ofudesaki, Mikagura-uta, and Osashizu as divinely revealed scriptures.

You may believe that human beings pass through repeated births and deaths while God patiently guides them toward spiritual maturity and the Joyous Life.

These beliefs raise several essential questions:

Did God leave humanity without the complete path until the nineteenth century?

Was a new divine revelation through Oyasama necessary after Jesus Christ?

Is the human body merely borrowed from God?

Is humanity’s deepest problem dust accumulated upon the mind—or actual sin and guilt before God?

Should illness be interpreted as guidance from God concerning the condition of a person’s mind?

Do human beings experience repeated rebirths—or one life followed by judgment and resurrection?

Can cheerful service and purification of the mind reconcile sinners to God?

Is Jesus one spiritual teacher within God’s continuing guidance—or the eternal Creator and only Savior?

What Is Tenrikyo?

Tenrikyo is a Japanese religion that began through the experiences and teachings of Miki Nakayama during the nineteenth century.

Followers call her:

Oyasama.

This title expresses her role as the Parent of the Divine Model and the one through whom God the Parent became openly revealed.

Tenrikyo teaches that:

• God the Parent created humanity.
• Human beings were created to live the Joyous Life.
• All people are children of the same divine Parent.
• The body is borrowed from God.
• The mind is entrusted to each person.
• Wrong uses of the mind produce spiritual disorder.
• God may use circumstances and physical conditions to guide human beings.
• The mind must be purified of its spiritual dusts.
• Oyasama revealed and demonstrated the divinely intended path.
• The Service plays a central role in prayer and salvation.
• Selfless service expresses gratitude to God.

Tenrikyo presents itself not merely as a set of doctrines but as a way of daily life centered upon gratitude, joy, mutual assistance, and spiritual maturity.

Important Areas of Agreement

Tenrikyo and biblical Christianity share several meaningful concerns.

Both teach that:

• Humanity owes its existence to God.
• All human beings share a common origin.
• Greed, hatred, anger, and arrogance are destructive.
• Gratitude should shape daily life.
• People should help one another.
• The inward condition matters.
• Religious faith should affect ordinary conduct.
• God desires human beings to live in love and harmony.

The Bible teaches that God created humanity:

“So God created man in his own image…”

It teaches that all nations share one human origin:

“And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth…”

It commands gratitude:

But moral agreement does not resolve the deeper questions concerning revelation, sin, suffering, rebirth, salvation, and Jesus Christ.

Who Is God the Parent?

Tenrikyo refers to God as:

• God the Parent
• God of Origin
• God in Truth
• Tenri-O-no-Mikoto

The language of God as Parent emphasizes that all human beings belong to one family and that God desires their growth and happiness.

The Bible also reveals God as Father.

Jesus taught His followers to pray:

“Our Father which art in heaven…”
— Matthew 6:9, KJV

God’s fatherly care is real.

But we must ask:

Does the Tenrikyo understanding of God agree with the complete biblical revelation?

Is God Only a Loving Parent?

God is perfectly loving.

But divine love cannot be separated from holiness and justice.

The Bible says:

“God is love.”
— 1 John 4:8, KJV

It also says:

“Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts…”
— Isaiah 6:3, KJV

And:

“The LORD is a God of judgment…”
— Isaiah 30:18, KJV

A loving parent does not ignore conduct that destroys children and harms others.

God’s love includes:

• Compassion
• Correction
• Truth
• Justice
• Mercy
• A call to repentance

We should not define God’s parenthood in a way that removes His holiness or humanity’s accountability.

Why Did God Create Humanity?

Tenrikyo teaches that God created human beings so that they could live the Joyous Life and that God could share in their joy.

The Bible also teaches that God created humanity for a loving relationship with Himself and with one another.

Human beings were created:

• In God’s image
• To know Him
• To glorify Him
• To exercise responsible stewardship
• To love God and neighbor

God did not create humanity because He lacked joy or companionship.

God already possessed perfect glory before creation.

Jesus spoke of:

“The glory which I had with thee before the world was.”

Creation is an expression of God’s goodness, not the completion of something missing within Him.

What Is the Joyous Life?

The Joyous Life is central to Tenrikyo.

It describes a way of living in which people:

• Recognize God’s providence
• Live gratefully
• Help one another
• Remove selfish uses of the mind
• Accept life with joy
• Work toward harmony
• Share happiness with God and humanity

This goal contains valuable moral concerns.

The Bible likewise speaks of joy:

“The joy of the LORD is your strength.”
— Nehemiah 8:10, KJV

Jesus said:

“These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.”
— John 15:11, KJV

But biblical joy is not merely the result of purifying attitudes and cooperating harmoniously.

Its foundation is reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ.

Can We Have Lasting Joy Without Forgiveness?

No.

A person may cultivate optimism, gratitude, and cheerfulness while remaining guilty before God.

True joy does not come from ignoring guilt.

It comes from receiving forgiveness.

David wrote:

“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.”
— Psalm 32:1, KJV

Paul speaks of:

“Joy and peace in believing…”
— Romans 15:13, KJV

The gospel does not oppose joy.

It provides the only secure foundation for everlasting joy.

What Does “A Thing Lent, a Thing Borrowed” Mean?

Tenrikyo commonly teaches that the human body is borrowed from God while the mind is entrusted to the person’s use.

This teaching may encourage:

• Gratitude for physical life
• Responsible conduct
• Humility
• Recognition of dependence upon God

The Bible agrees that our bodies belong ultimately to God.

Paul writes:

“Ye are not your own… For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body…”
— 1 Corinthians 6:19–20, KJV

But the body is more than a temporary object loaned to a preexisting soul through repeated lives.

God created the whole human person.

The body is an essential part of human identity and will be raised from death.

Is the Body Merely Temporary Clothing for the Soul?

No.

The body is temporary in its present mortal condition.

But bodily existence itself is not disposable or unimportant.

God formed the first human body:

“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life…”

Jesus truly became flesh:

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…”

God’s final plan is not for souls to keep borrowing different bodies.

He will raise and transform the bodies of His people.

What Are the Dusts of the Mind?

Tenrikyo uses the picture of dust accumulating upon the mind.

The dusts commonly identified include destructive attitudes such as:

• Greed
• Miserliness
• Partiality
• Hatred
• Anger
• Self-love
• Covetousness
• Arrogance

Dust can accumulate gradually.

Likewise, selfish habits and attitudes can become deeply established.

The Bible also warns against these conditions.

It condemns greed:

“Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth… evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”
— Colossians 3:5, KJV

It condemns hatred:

“Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer…”
— 1 John 3:15, KJV

It condemns pride:

“God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.”

The diagnosis recognizes real moral dangers.

But Scripture describes the human problem as deeper than dust resting upon an otherwise pure mind.

Is Sin Merely Dust Upon the Mind?

No.

Dust is external to the object it covers and can ordinarily be removed by cleaning.

The Bible teaches that sin has corrupted the inward heart.

Jesus said:

“For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit…”
— Mark 7:21–22, KJV

Humanity’s problem is not simply that bad attitudes have lightly accumulated upon a naturally healthy mind.

We have personally rebelled against God.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
— Romans 3:23, KJV

We need more than mental sweeping.

We need forgiveness and a new heart.

Can We Purify Our Own Minds?

People can change habits, reconsider attitudes, apologize, practice gratitude, and exercise self-control.

Those changes matter.

But human effort cannot make a guilty person innocent.

David prayed:

“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
— Psalm 51:10, KJV

He did not say:

“I will completely purify myself through reflection and improved conduct.”

Only God can cleanse the inward person and remove condemnation.

What Is Sin?

Sin is not merely a mistaken use of the mind that prevents the Joyous Life.

It is rebellion against God’s rightful authority.

“Sin is the transgression of the law.”

Sin includes:

• Idolatry
• Pride
• Hatred
• Dishonesty
• Greed
• Sexual immorality
• Unforgiveness
• Selfishness
• Failure to love God
• Failure to love our neighbors

Sin harms human relationships.

Most importantly, it violates our relationship with the Creator.

David confessed:

“Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight…”

Does Wrong Use of the Mind Explain Every Evil Action?

Our thoughts influence our conduct.

Anger, jealousy, greed, fear, and resentment may produce destructive behavior.

But describing wrongdoing as a misuse of mind can become insufficient if it does not address:

• Personal guilt
• God’s violated law
• Justice for victims
• The need for forgiveness
• The corruption of the heart

A murderer needs more than improved thinking.

The victim’s suffering and God’s justice must be addressed.

The cross addresses both guilt and justice.

Does God Use Illness as Guidance?

Tenrikyo may understand illness or bodily difficulty as guidance through which God encourages a person to reflect upon the use of the mind.

The Bible does teach that God may use physical affliction to correct or discipline someone.

Paul wrote that some believers experienced physical consequences because of serious misconduct.

However, Scripture does not teach that every illness reveals a spiritual defect in the patient’s thinking.

Jesus’ disciples asked about a man born blind:

“Who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?”
— John 9:2, KJV

Jesus answered:

“Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents…”
— John 9:3, KJV

We must not assume that every sick or disabled person is being corrected for a particular mental condition.

Why Do People Become Ill?

Illness may result from many causes, including:

• Infection
• Genetic conditions
• Injury
• Aging
• Environmental exposure
• Another person’s actions
• Personal choices
• The general brokenness of creation

Some illnesses may involve several causes at once.

The Bible teaches that all creation has been affected by humanity’s fall:

“For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.”
— Romans 8:22, KJV

Illness should invite compassion—not automatic spiritual suspicion.

Can God Heal?

Yes.

God can heal directly, gradually, or through ordinary means.

David prayed:

“O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.”

Jesus healed people with:

• Blindness
• Paralysis
• Fever
• Bleeding
• Leprosy
• Other serious conditions

Christians should pray for the sick while also seeking responsible medical assistance when needed.

Healing is an act of God’s mercy—not proof that the patient has achieved a perfect state of mind.

What Is the Service?

The Service is central to Tenrikyo worship.

It may involve:

• Sacred songs
• Hand movements
• Dance
• Musical instruments
• Prayer
• Symbolic representation of divine creation and providence

It is understood as connected with prayer for salvation, healing, harmony, and realization of the Joyous Life.

Worship expressed through song and bodily movement is not inherently wrong.

The Bible contains:

• Singing
• Musical instruments
• Raised hands
• Bowing
• Dancing in celebration

The decisive question is not the physical form alone.

It is whether the worship is directed according to God’s true revelation.

Can a Religious Service Save Humanity?

No human ceremony can remove guilt.

A ritual may express:

• Gratitude
• Unity
• Hope
• Repentance
• Commitment

But it cannot provide the sacrifice required for sin.

The Bible says:

“For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.”
— Hebrews 10:4, KJV

Even the ceremonies God commanded under the Old Covenant could not finally remove guilt.

Only Jesus’ sacrifice can save.

What Is Hinokishin?

Hinokishin refers to cheerful, selfless activity offered in gratitude for God’s daily providence.

It may involve:

• Cleaning
• Community service
• Helping people in need
• Assisting at religious facilities
• Responding to disasters
• Ordinary daily acts performed gratefully

Grateful service is good.

The Bible teaches:

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord…”
— Colossians 3:23, KJV

Jesus also taught His followers to serve others.

But service cannot purchase forgiveness or complete salvation.

Can Selfless Service Remove Guilt?

No.

Suppose someone commits a serious wrong and later spends many years helping others.

The service is valuable.

But the original offense still happened.

Good deeds do not transform wrongdoing into innocence.

Jesus said:

“When ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say… We have done that which was our duty to do.”

Serving others is already our duty.

It is not spiritual currency that pays for sin.

Who Was Oyasama?

Tenrikyo identifies Miki Nakayama as Oyasama and teaches that God the Parent became openly revealed through her.

She is honored as:

• The Shrine of God
• The Parent of the Divine Model
• The one who revealed the path of the Joyous Life
• The example followers should imitate

Her life of hardship, generosity, teaching, and service is highly important within Tenrikyo.

Christians should describe her role accurately and without mockery.

But every claim of new revelation must be tested.

Can God Speak Through a Human Messenger?

Yes.

God spoke through prophets and apostles.

But the existence of true messengers means false messengers must be identified carefully.

The Bible commands:

“Believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God…”
— 1 John 4:1, KJV

A claimed revelation must agree with what God has already revealed.

A later messenger cannot contradict:

• The identity of God
• The nature of sin
• The gospel
• The finality of Christ
• Death and resurrection
• Salvation through grace

Did God Need to Reveal a New Path Through Oyasama?

No.

The Bible teaches that God’s supreme revelation has already come through His Son.

“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son…”
— Hebrews 1:1–2, KJV

Jesus did not merely deliver an incomplete regional teaching.

He commanded His followers to teach all nations.

Jude speaks of:

“The faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”
— Jude 3, KJV

The saving faith was delivered.

It did not need to be completed through a new nineteenth-century revelation.

Could Christianity Have Lost the True Path?

Christians and church institutions have often failed morally and doctrinally.

Those failures should be acknowledged.

But Jesus promised:

“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”
— Matthew 24:35, KJV

Peter wrote:

“But the word of the Lord endureth for ever.”
— 1 Peter 1:25, KJV

Even when religious leaders failed, Scripture remained available to expose their errors.

A new path was not needed to restore a gospel God promised to preserve.

What Are the Three Scriptures of Tenrikyo?

Tenrikyo recognizes three principal scriptures:

1. The Ofudesaki — The Tip of the Writing Brush
2. The Mikagura-uta — The Songs for the Service
3. The Osashizu — The Divine Directions

These writings are regarded as records of God the Parent’s revealed intention.

The Bible gives a strict warning concerning later messages that alter the gospel:

“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”
— Galatians 1:8, KJV

The reputation, sincerity, beauty, or moral tone of a later scripture cannot override apostolic truth.

How Should a Claimed Scripture Be Tested?

Ask:

• Does it agree with God’s earlier revelation?
• Does it present the same God?
• Does it explain sin as Scripture does?
• Does it affirm one earthly life followed by judgment?
• Does it uphold Jesus as the eternal Creator?
• Does it preserve salvation through Christ’s finished sacrifice?
• Does it add another necessary path or mediator?

A message that contradicts the gospel cannot come from the God who gave the gospel.

God does not reveal mutually contradictory plans of salvation.

Do We Experience Repeated Rebirths?

Tenrikyo teaches that human beings may pass through repeated births and deaths while God guides them toward spiritual maturity.

The Bible gives a different sequence:

“It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”
— Hebrews 9:27, KJV

We live once.

We die once.

Then we face God.

Scripture does not teach that the mind repeatedly receives different bodies while progressing toward the Joyous Life.

Did Jesus Teach Rebirth or Resurrection?

Jesus taught resurrection.

“The hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
And shall come forth…”
— John 5:28–29, KJV

Repeated rebirth means returning through different physical lives.

Resurrection means God raises the same person who lived and died.

Jesus said:

“I am the resurrection, and the life…”
— John 11:25, KJV

The Christian hope is not another borrowed body.

It is a glorified, resurrected body.

Why Do We Not Remember Previous Lives?

If present circumstances are connected with conduct in forgotten lives, difficult questions arise:

• How can someone repent of an act that cannot be remembered?
• How can suffering teach a specific lesson when its alleged cause is unknown?
• Why should the present person be corrected for a forgotten identity?
• How can claims about previous lives be verified?

Biblical judgment is personal and understandable.

“So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.”
— Romans 14:12, KJV

God judges the life each person actually lived and the choices each person made.

Who Is Jesus Christ?

Jesus is not merely:

• A great spiritual teacher
• An earlier messenger from God
• A model of joyful living
• One representative within God’s continuing revelation

John writes:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
— John 1:1, KJV

All things were created through Him:

“All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”
— John 1:3, KJV

The Word became human:

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…”
— John 1:14, KJV

Jesus is the eternal Creator who entered His creation.

Is Jesus Equal to Oyasama?

No.

Miki Nakayama was a human being who lived during the nineteenth century.

Jesus existed before the world.

He said:

“Before Abraham was, I am.”
— John 8:58, KJV

Jesus created all things.

He possesses authority to:

• Forgive sins
• Raise the dead
• Give eternal life
• Judge humanity
• Receive worship

No later religious teacher belongs in the same category as the eternal Son of God.

Did Jesus Merely Demonstrate a Divine Model?

Jesus is the perfect example of holy living.

But He came to do more than show humanity how to live.

He said:

“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
— Luke 19:10, KJV

He also said:

“The Son of man came… to give his life a ransom for many.”
— Mark 10:45, KJV

A model demonstrates the way.

A Savior rescues those who cannot save themselves.

Jesus is both our perfect example and our sin-bearing Savior.

Why Did Jesus Die?

Jesus did not die merely to demonstrate surrender, joy, patience, or love.

He died for our sins:

“Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures.”
— 1 Corinthians 15:3, KJV

Peter writes:

“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree…”
— 1 Peter 2:24, KJV

Isaiah prophesied:

“The LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
— Isaiah 53:6, KJV

Jesus bore real guilt and judgment in the sinner’s place.

Why Is a Sacrifice Necessary?

God is loving, but He is also just.

He cannot declare cruelty, idolatry, abuse, and rebellion meaningless.

Sin produces death:

“For the wages of sin is death…”

At the cross, God remained:

“Just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.”

Sin was not ignored.

Jesus willingly bore its penalty.

Justice and mercy met at the cross.

Can the Mind’s Purification Replace Christ’s Sacrifice?

No.

Changing selfish attitudes is important.

But improved attitudes cannot erase earlier guilt.

A person may stop stealing.

That does not make the earlier theft cease to have occurred.

A person may overcome hatred.

That does not automatically repair every injury caused by former hatred.

Forgiveness must come from God.

Christ alone provided the sufficient sacrifice.

Did Jesus Bodily Rise From the Dead?

Yes.

Jesus predicted:

“Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

John explains:

“But he spake of the temple of his body.”
— John 2:21, KJV

After rising, Jesus said:

“Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.”

Jesus did not receive another borrowed body.

The body that was crucified rose from the grave.

Why Does the Resurrection Matter?

The bodily resurrection proves that:

• Jesus’ claims are true.
• His sacrifice was accepted.
• Death has been defeated.
• Resurrection—not repeated rebirth—is humanity’s future.
• Jesus has authority to save and judge.
• Eternal life is available through Him.

Paul writes:

“But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.”
— 1 Corinthians 15:20, KJV

What Is Salvation?

Tenrikyo may describe salvation in terms of:

• Realization of the Joyous Life
• Purification of the mind
• Removal of selfish attitudes
• Healing
• Human harmony
• Spiritual maturity
• Living according to God the Parent’s intention

The Bible includes transformation, joy, healing, and restored relationships.

But salvation begins with God rescuing guilty sinners who cannot save themselves.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
— Ephesians 2:8–9, KJV

Salvation is not the final result of our mental purification.

It is God’s gift through Jesus Christ.

Can Religious Practice Save Us?

No.

Sacred services, charitable work, prayer, gratitude, and disciplined thinking may affect conduct and emotion.

But they cannot make a guilty person righteous.

The Bible says:

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us…”
— Titus 3:5, KJV

We need mercy—not merely greater effort.

Does Grace Make Good Works Unnecessary?

No.

The next verse after Ephesians 2:8–9 says:

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works…”
— Ephesians 2:10, KJV

The biblical order is:

1. God saves the sinner by grace through faith.
2. God gives the believer new spiritual life.
3. The believer begins living gratefully and serving others.

Good works are the fruit of salvation.

They are not the payment for salvation.

What Does It Mean to Be Born Again?

Jesus said:

“Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

New birth is not receiving another physical body in a future life.

It is God giving spiritual life during this present life.

God promised:

“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you…”

We do not merely need the dust swept from our minds.

We need new hearts.

Can You Know That You Have Eternal Life?

Yes.

You do not need to wonder how many lives or stages of spiritual maturity remain.

John wrote:

“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life…”

Jesus said:

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”

Assurance rests upon Jesus’ completed work—not the degree to which we have purified our minds.

Does Following Jesus Require Rejecting Japanese Culture?

No.

A Japanese follower of Jesus may continue appreciating:

• The Japanese language
• Family loyalty
• Respect for elders
• Community responsibility
• Traditional clothing
• Music
• Art
• Food
• Cleanliness
• Cheerful service
• Nonreligious cultural customs

Following Jesus does require rejecting any spiritual authority or practice that contradicts God’s Word.

Culture may be honored.

Worship and saving trust belong to Jesus Christ alone.

What Must You Do?

1. Test Every Claimed Revelation

Do not accept a message merely because it is attributed to God the Parent.

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God…”

2. Recognize Your Sin

Your deepest problem is not merely dust upon the mind, insufficient gratitude, or failure to live joyously.

You have sinned against God.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

3. Stop Trusting in Self-Purification

Improved thinking, cheerful service, sacred ceremonies, and moral effort cannot erase guilt.

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us…”

4. Repent

Turn from sin, self-righteousness, later revelations that contradict Scripture, and every confidence that competes with Jesus Christ.

5. Believe the Gospel

“Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”

8. Follow Jesus in Joy, Gratitude, and Obedience

Those whom Jesus saves should live gratefully, reject selfishness, serve others, love their families, and walk joyfully with God.

A Prayer From an Honest Heart

Repeating a prayer cannot save you. Jesus Christ saves. But you may express sincere repentance and faith in words such as these:

God who created heaven and earth, I want to know You as You have truly revealed Yourself. I confess that I have sinned against You and cannot save or purify myself through cheerful service, the removal of mental dusts, sacred ceremonies, Oyasama, later scriptures, healing, moral improvement, or repeated rebirth. I believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Creator and Lord who became man, lived without sin, bore my guilt, died in my place, and bodily rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and every spiritual authority that competes with Him. I place my complete trust in Jesus Christ as my only Lord, Savior, righteousness, High Priest, and source of eternal life. Forgive me, give me a new heart, fill me with Your Holy Spirit, and teach me to live in truth, gratitude, joy, love, and obedience. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The saving power is not in repeating these exact words.

The question is whether you have genuinely turned from sin and self-reliance to the living God through Jesus Christ.

What If Tenrikyo Helped Your Family?

You do not need to deny every positive experience in order to examine Tenrikyo’s spiritual claims honestly.

You may believe Tenrikyo helped you:

• Become more grateful
• Control anger
• Serve other people
• Strengthen family relationships
• Respond positively to hardship
• Find a caring community
• Develop hope during sickness

Those benefits may be meaningful.

But practical benefit does not prove that every doctrine came from God.

The decisive question is not merely:

“Did this help me?”

It is:

“Does it agree with God’s written revelation concerning sin, Jesus Christ, salvation, death, and resurrection?”

What If Your Family Is Tenrikyo?

Continue loving and honoring your family.

Do not mock Oyasama, the Service, Jiba, sacred songs, or the desire to live joyously.

Do not become proud or needlessly argumentative.

Your life should increasingly demonstrate:

• Love
• Humility
• Patience
• Gratitude
• Generosity
• Truthfulness
• Purity
• Cheerful service

You may explain gently:

“I still value gratitude, family harmony, joy, and service to others. But I now believe humanity’s deepest problem is actual sin rather than dust upon the mind, that we live once before judgment, and that Jesus Christ alone bore my sins and bodily rose from the dead.”

Can cheerful service erase guilt?

Is Jesus one messenger among others—or the eternal Creator and only Savior?

Our Purpose

Our purpose is not to insult Tenrikyo followers, disrespect Japanese culture, dismiss charitable service, or pretend that everyone carrying a Christian label truly follows Jesus.

Many church members also trust in:

• Religious ceremonies
• Good works
• Family tradition
• Emotional experiences
• Religious leaders
• Church membership
• A prayer once repeated

rather than Jesus Christ.

Every person must examine the foundation:

“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves.”
— 2 Corinthians 13:5, KJV

Gratitude matters.

Joy matters.

Family harmony matters.

Helping other people matters.

Greed, hatred, anger, and arrogance should be rejected.

Religious faith should influence daily conduct.

But humanity’s deepest problem is not merely dust upon the mind.

It is sin against God.

The body is not merely temporary clothing borrowed through repeated lives.

Illness does not always reveal a wrong mental attitude.

Cheerful service cannot erase guilt.

A sacred ceremony cannot reconcile sinners to God.

Repeated rebirth is not the biblical hope.

A later claimed revelation cannot replace or complete the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Oyasama was not equal to Jesus Christ.

Jesus is the eternal Word.

He created everything visible and invisible.

He became truly human.

He lived without sin.

He bore our guilt.

He died once as the final sacrifice.

His actual body rose from the grave.

He offers forgiveness rather than self-purification.

He offers new birth rather than repeated birth.

He offers resurrection rather than another borrowed body.

He offers everlasting joy grounded in reconciliation with God.

He offers salvation as a gift rather than a spiritual condition we must attain.

Do not rest your eternal hope in the purification of the mind, cheerful service, repeated rebirth, later scriptures, or the Divine Model of Oyasama. Come completely to Jesus Christ—the eternal Creator, God’s supreme revelation, bearer of your sins, bodily risen Lord, and only giver of everlasting life and everlasting joy.
