The Bible Deserves to Be Heard, Believed, and Obeyed.
Why should anyone believe the Bible? That is an honest and important question.
If the Bible is truly the Word of God, then it deserves to be heard, believed, obeyed, and treasured. But if it is merely a human book, then it should not command our lives.
Faith in the Bible does not have to rest merely on upbringing or religious tradition. The Bible stands before the world as a unique book, and there are strong reasons to believe it is what it claims to be.
This question matters greatly.
If the Bible is the Word of God, then it is not merely something to inspect from a distance. It is truth to receive, believe, and obey.
The real question is not only, “Why should anyone believe the Bible?” The real question is, “What will I do if it is true?”
A personal questionBlessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
“Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.”
“And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:”
“But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”
John 20:29-31God did not leave the world with empty claims. He gave written witness so that people who have not physically seen Jesus Christ might still believe that He is the Christ, the Son of God, and have life through His name.
The Bible Is Unified in a Way No Mere Human Book Should Be
Another reason to believe the Bible is the remarkable unity of its message.
The Bible was written over a long span of time by many human writers from different backgrounds. Yet those writers spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost (2 Peter 1:20-21), and its message holds together with deep and unmistakable unity.
From beginning to end, the Bible tells one great story:
The Old Testament points forward. The New Testament brings that fulfillment into clear light. As Jesus showed His disciples, the Scriptures speak of Him throughout (Luke 24:27, 44). The whole Bible moves with purpose toward Christ.
The Bible’s unity points beyond human genius.
A merely human collection of religious writings produced across centuries would normally feel scattered, contradictory, and confused. But the Bible possesses an inner unity that points beyond man.
The Bible Has Been Preserved with Remarkable Accuracy
Another reason to trust the Bible is the strength of its manuscript evidence.
The New Testament survives in thousands of Greek manuscripts, together with early translations and extensive quotations in ancient Christian writings. Because these witnesses can be compared, copying differences can be identified rather than hidden.
Copyists were not perfect in every detail, but the manuscript record does not show a Bible rewritten beyond recognition. The central message concerning Jesus Christ, His death, His resurrection, and salvation through Him remains clear across the textual witnesses.
The Bible has not been changed beyond recognition.
The manuscript record provides powerful evidence that the biblical text has been transmitted with remarkable reliability.
Jesus Christ Treated the Scriptures as the Word of God
For the Christian, this matters enormously.
If Jesus Christ is who He claimed to be, then His view of Scripture should settle the matter for us. Jesus did not treat the Scriptures as a collection of myths, guesses, or spiritual reflections. He declared that “the scripture cannot be broken” (John 10:35) and treated the written Word as the truth of God.
One of the strongest reasons to believe the Bible is this: Jesus believed it.
If Jesus Christ rose from the dead, then His view of Scripture deserves to be taken seriously. That leads directly to the central historical claim of Christianity: His bodily resurrection.
The Resurrection of Jesus Must Be Examined
Christianity stands or falls with the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ. The apostles did not preach a private feeling or merely a spiritual symbol. They proclaimed that Jesus died, was buried, rose from the dead, and appeared to witnesses (1 Corinthians 15:3-8).
The resurrection deserves serious examination because it confirms Jesus Christ’s identity, vindicates His claims, and stands at the center of the gospel the apostles carried into the world.
The Bible’s Greatest Purpose Is to Lead You to Christ
Above all, the Bible is not just a book of religious ideas. It is the revelation of God—“given by inspiration of God” (2 Timothy 3:16)—and it leads to Jesus Christ.
The Bible shows us our sin, our guilt, our danger, and our need. Then it points us to the Lord Jesus Christ, who lived without sin, died for sinners, rose again, and saves those who come to Him in repentance and faith.
If the Bible is true, then you must respond.
This question is not merely academic. It is personal. If the Bible is true, then you must not only admire it. You must respond to it.
Prophecy, Christ’s Return, and Why This Matters
Scripture contains many promises and predictions that unfold across biblical history and reach their fulfillment in Jesus Christ. These include direct Messianic prophecies, covenant promises, Messianic Psalms, and patterns that the New Testament expressly connects to Christ.
Our 300 Prophetic Witnesses resource uses the word witnesses deliberately. It does not claim that every entry is a separate prediction. Together, the passages form a connected biblical testimony pointing to the identity, work, death, resurrection, priesthood, kingdom, and saving work of Jesus Christ.
The return of Jesus Christ is not a fantasy. It is certain.
Whether through death or at Christ’s return, every person will face eternity. When He returns, He will bring final judgment and establish His everlasting kingdom. Those who reject the truth of God will face judgment. Those who belong to Jesus Christ will be with Him forever.
This is not merely a question about whether the Bible is interesting, ancient, or influential. It is a question of whether you will believe what God has said while there is still time.
Final Encouragement
Do not reject the Bible from a distance.
Read it honestly. Read it carefully. Read it humbly. Ask God to show you the truth. Start with the Gospel of John. Come not merely to inspect the Bible, but to hear what God is saying through it. “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).
The Bible has stood through centuries of attack, doubt, criticism, and opposition. Yet it remains what it has always been: the Word of God that exposes the heart, reveals the truth, and points sinners to Jesus Christ.
The real question is this:
What will I do if it is true?
